Phil Vickery found himself in an uneasy situation during the handover from Lorraine to This Morning on Tuesday.
The discomfort was palpable after Lorraine Kelly chatted with Fern Britton, Phil’s former spouse, about her latest book.
Lorraine announced: “Nearly it from us, Ben and Cat are here shortly. Hi, you two!”
Cat Deeley responded to Lorraine, saying, “Good morning, Lorraine,” and proceeded to mention, “We are carrying on with our cosmetic cowboys investigation. We are continuing with that.”
Ben Shephard joined in, remarking to Lorraine, “I know you were talking about that earlier, Lorraine.”, reports the Mirror.
As he spoke, the camera shifted to a somewhat tense Phil in the This Morning kitchen.
Fern Britton made a subtle dig at her ex
Phil, with arms crossed, gave an awkward nod as Ben commented, “Phil is in the kitchen with some ultimate summer salads.
“We are going to be finding out how you can save on childcare costs,” Cat contributed.
Viewers also picked up on the uncomfortable exchange, with one mentioning on X, “That link from Fearne to Phil (her ex) wasn’t awkward at all #ThisMorning #Lorraine.”
Another viewer simply stated: “Awkward.”
Before Lorraine handed over to the This Morning studio, Fern tackled her novel, seemingly taking a veiled swipe at her ex-husband.

Fern described a character in her book reasserting herself, saying, “So she sort of gradually repowers herself,” with further implications about men, adding, “Distrusting of men and doesn’t want anything, this is kind of right what you know, obviously.”
Lorraine chuckled as Fern added, “But a nice person does turn up. Ray.”
Fern met Phil Vickery during her time on BBC Two’s Ready Steady Cook, and together they have one daughter, Winnie. Yet, after 20 years of marriage, the pair chose to part ways in 2020.
In a brief announcement at the time, Fern said: “After more than 20 happy years together, Phil and I have decided to go our separate ways. We will always share a great friendship and our lovely children.”
