In an extract from Phillip Schofield‘s 1992 biography the TV presenter categorically denied he was gay and admitted that ‘if people knew the real me they’d be horrified.’
The book which was written by Schofield’s future ITV colleague and then Sun journalist Piers Morgan promises it is not a ‘warts and all expose’ of Schofield.
It instead focuses on his various romantic interests including his relationship with current wife Stephanie Lowe and repeatedly stresses that despite apparent rumours at the time, Schofield was ‘not gay.’
After interviewing Schofield’s friends, family and partners, Morgan writes: ‘One of the most laughable accusations in showbusiness is that Phillip Schofield might be gay.’
Schofield himself also directly addresses it, telling Morgan: ‘Because I have always guarded my private life very closely, these sort of rumours are bound to fly around. But I’ve got one thing to say to anyone who says things like that – bull****’

This week, Channel 5 is broadcasting a four part documentary showing the 62-year-old attempting to survive on a remote Madagascan island
This week, Channel 5 is broadcasting a four part documentary showing the 62-year-old attempting to survive on a remote Madagascan island following the scandal that ended his ITV career last year.
Phillip, who came out as gay in 2020, stepped down from presenting This Morning after 21 years when he admitted he repeatedly lied to bosses about having an affair with a runner.
Phillip – who called the relationship ‘unwise, but not illegal’ – cheated on his wife Stephanie with the young male colleague.
The tryst was kept secret for years until he admitted to The Mail on Sunday he had lied about it having been just rumours.
He went on to confess he had misled his employer ITV, his colleagues, his friends and his then agents at the management firm YMU.
After a year in the showbiz wilderness, Schofield returned to TV screens on Monday for the intimate show which is shot entirely by him on handheld cameras.

Schofield also told the journalist how he lost his virginity at the age of 15
Reviews of the show have been brutal with viewers describing it as ‘boring’ and ‘insanely cringe’ as well as suggesting Schofield is using the platform to bitterly settle old scores with former ITV colleagues.
Extracts from the forgotten biography, titled To Dream a Dream: The Amazing Life of Phillip Schofield, have been found by the Telegraph and make for revealing reading during his current TV comeback.
Morgan describes Schofield as ‘one of the most genuinely nice guys in showbusiness’ and laughs off the homosexual ‘rumours, which tend to haunt any unmarried TV personality who prefers not to show off his girlfriends in public.’
The book also has several revealing anecdotes about Phillip’s wild side during the 1990s with the presenter admitting ‘when I am not in the public eye I behave exactly like any other thirty-year-old bachelor. It’s just that I am very careful not to do anything that might cause a parent to think I am unsuitable to be a role model for their child.’
He continues: ‘I have had some extremely dodgy nights. I have got home sometimes and the next morning had absolutely no recollection of where I’d been or what I’d done or indeed how I got back. It’s quite worrying really, isn’t it!’
The book goes into great detail on Schofield’s self proclaimed ‘smouldering passion’ for woman and references his current wife Stephanie who has remained by his side after he came out four years ago.
Morgan writes: ‘Friends reckon Phil may have met that woman in Stephanie. One thing is for sure – he definitely isn’t gay!’
Schofield also told the journalist how he lost his virginity at the age of 15 describing how it ‘happened in the sand dunes of Newquay beach’ with a girl who’s name began with L.
