Martin Frizell shared a candid photo of Fiona Phillips from four years ago before she discovered that she had early on-set Alzheimer’s disease. The former This Morning boss, who stepped down from his role in February, admitted it was “tough” celebrating Mother’s Day today in a heartbreaking post. Taking to his Instagram Stories on Sunday he uploaded a photo of his other half during happier moments.
In the sweet photo Fiona could be smiling while waving at the camera. The 64-year-old former morning TV presenter was told she had Alzheimer’s in 2022, sharing the news publicly a year later. In the candid update Martin admitted it has not been easy as he gave a rare family insight with his 8,751 followers.

He captioned the photo: “If Mother’s Day is tough, you’re not alone. Share the good times. This was Fiona four years ago just before symptoms started. It’s my favourite picture of a wonderful mum.”
In a follow-up post Martin posted a photo of specially engraved glass Fiona received in 2007 when she was crowned “Mum of the Year”.
He wrote: “This was more important in our house than any BAFTA, NTA, or RTS.”
Fiona previously issued an update on her Alzheimer’s diagnosis as she described the “frightening” aspects on the condition – as well as the moments of “joy”.
She is set to release a book detailing her journey, with the help of her husband. Remember When is set to be published in July, as she documents her experience so far.
“I hope this book can show people a little about what it is like to live with Alzheimer’s,” she explained.
The presenter continued: “How frightening and confusing it is. But also how much life can still bring joy and be valued.
“And if you or someone you love is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s, I hope this book brings you some comfort. I want you to know, you are not alone,” MailOnline reports.
