Sophia Hutchins, a close friend and manager of Caitlyn Jenner, tragically died in an ATV accident near Malibu on Wednesday, July 2.She was just 29 years old. The accident happened on a winding road near Jenner’s California home, according to authorities.

Hutchins was driving the all-terrain vehicle when she reportedly collided with the rear of a moving vehicle carrying two passengers. Her sudden death sent shockwaves through both the entertainment industry and the LGBTQ+ community, where she was a well-known figure and advocate.

TMZ first reported the fatal crash, citing sources from law enforcement and her family. Her passing was later confirmed by PEOPLE magazine.

Hutchins served as the CEO of the Caitlyn Jenner Foundation and had managed Jenner’s professional interests since 2017. Their relationship, which began after Jenner’s public gender transition in 2015, developed into a close personal and professional partnership.

“We have so much in common; we see the world so similarly and we both are such a good match because we challenge each other,” Hutchins said in a 2018 interview on The Hidden Truth with Jim Breslo. “She challenges me in so many ways, has allowed me to grow in so many ways and I hope I challenge her to grow.”

The nature of their relationship was often misunderstood, something Hutchins addressed directly in past interviews.

A resurfaced clip from Caitlyn Jenner’s 2020 stint on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! shows Hutchins standing up to British broadcaster Piers Morgan, who questioned the nature of their relationship. In the conversation, Hutchins held her own against Morgan’s intrusive questioning.

She commended Jenner’s resilience in the jungle and highlighted their mutual commitment to advocacy and entrepreneurship. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has yet to release an official statement but confirmed that an active investigation is in progress.

Hutchins also featured in several episodes of Jenner’s E! reality show I Am Cait and was widely acknowledged as a pivotal figure in Jenner’s journey post-transition. Hutchins was pronounced dead at the scene after her ATV went over a cliff on the 4200 block of Decker Canyon Road, plunging roughly 350 feet into a ravine. The crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. local time, authorities said.

Initial reports from TMZ indicated that Hutchins was driving the ATV when she struck the rear bumper of a moving vehicle, causing the off-road vehicle to veer off the shoulder. The two people inside the vehicle were not injured, according to law enforcement sources.

However, Daily Mail reported a conflicting version of events Friday, citing sources who claimed it was in fact a pickup truck that struck Hutchins’ ATV, not the other way around. Investigators told KCAL that the driver of the truck did not appear to be impaired.
