Jessica Tarlov once again called out her Fox News’ The Five co-host Jesse Watters this week, criticizing his double standards regarding the recent lethal Texas flash floods.

Tarlov criticized Watters for not holding President Donald Trump to account for the ongoing disaster as he did former President Joe Biden during Hurricane Helene last year.

The flash flood calamity has been confirmed to have taken at least 119 lives across six counties, with Kerr County alone losing 59 adults and 36 children. Among those who perished were 27 campers and counselors from Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp situated on the Guadalupe River’s edge.

Over 173 individuals are still reported missing, but Texas Governor Greg Abbott has vowed, “We will not stop until every missing person is accounted for.”

As questions arise about the efficacy of current warning systems and whether more proactive measures could have been taken to mitigate the fatalities, Watters has notably refrained from commenting on how reductions by the advisory Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) may have negatively influenced the nation’s alert systems.

Hurricane Helene was the most devastating hurricane to hit the U.S. mainland since Katrina in 2005, claiming numerous lives, particularly in North Carolina, with significant casualties also in Georgia and South Carolina.

Despite the threat, Trump spread false information about the federal response to Helene, perpetuating a circulating rumor that FEMA would only provide $750 to victims. However, this amount actually referred to immediate assistance.

Tarlov swiftly reminded Watters that Fox News hardly criticized Trump for spreading this misinformation.

She described the Texas flooding as “one of the more devastating stories” that she and her co-hosts have had to cover. As a mother of two daughters who will eventually attend camp, she expressed that she “cannot even imagine what that feels like.”

Tarlov shared that she had been reading testimonials, particularly about fathers and grandfathers searching the camp for any sign of their children, such as a thermos with their kid’s name on it.

She added, “Maybe they find the body of another camper, maybe they find their own child or grandchild. Unimaginable. I’m so sorry for them and I’m sorry for any hurt that any comments about this tragedy has caused these families.”

She emphasized that discussing preparedness or potential solutions does not disrespect the memory of those lost or detract from the necessary conversation, especially since the river has been flooding for a long time.

The co-host said, “There are a number of instances in this and we were here around the table when Hurricane Helene struck and I did not hear Jesse Watters, who I’m thrilled is back around the table, saying that Donald Trump should stop spreading lies about the Biden administration and the FEMA funds.”

Watters offered only a smile when she mentioned him. She pointed out that Trump claimed, “They’re giving your FEMA dollars to illegals. They’re housing them with your FEMA dollars.”

She continued by noting, “Then he said you’re only gonna get $750 from FEMA, which was a complete lie, and there are Republican officials who have testified to the fact that people did not get their FEMA assistance because of what Trump and other Republicans were saying.”

The co-host of The Five wrapped up her thoughts stating, “There are over $54 billion in identified needs in terms of disaster resistance when it comes to these kinds of flash floods that state officials are asking for, and the GOP legislature has rejected them. That is something that they can work on to move forward and hopefully avoid a tragedy like this again.”

Some individuals supported Tarlov’s criticism of Watters, with one commenting, “That’s because it was Trump. This is the MAGA double standard on full display.”

Another chimed in, “Jessica: We were here around the table when Hurricane Helene struck. I did not hear Jesse Watters saying that Donald Trump should stop spreading lies about the Biden administration and the FEMA funds.”

One individual criticized, “Thank you Jessica. The hypocrisy of some of your colleagues is astounding. Especially Waters,” while another concurred, “The hypocrisy of the right is always on point.”

Another commenter expressed their view bluntly, “Jesse Watters of Fox News is all about Lies and Propaganda! ! ! ! We all know that,” and someone else praised, “Very calm, considered response from @JessicaTarlov that makes total sense. It’s ok to discuss what’s happened and how it could be prevented in future without it becoming a political football.”
