Jesse Watters seemed to be carefree over the weekend following Gavin Newsom Fox News lawsuit.
While California Governor Gavin Newsom escalates his battle with Fox News, filing a $787 million defamation lawsuit, the network’s primetime host Jesse Watters appeared unbothered, teeing off at a private golf course and celebrating a trophy win.
Watters, 46, posted photos Saturday morning on Instagram from what he dubbed the “Bro Cup 2025,” showing him grinning beside fellow golfer PJ as they hoisted a silver cup against the backdrop of a manicured fairway.
The post quickly drew thousands of likes and a flurry of comments, with some fans praising the host’s golf swing, and others questioning the setting.
“Which Trump course is that polo JW?” one user asked, hinting at a possible connection to one of the president’s golf properties.
The timing of Watters’ outing is notable, coming just hours after Newsom filed a sweeping defamation suit in Delaware Superior Court, accusing Fox News and Watters of spreading false claims. These claims are connected to a supposed phone call between the governor and President Donald Trump during a National Guard deployment dispute in Los Angeles.

“Gov. Newsom’s transparent publicity stunt is frivolous and designed to chill free speech critical of him,” Fox News responded in a statement. “We will defend this case vigorously and look forward to it being dismissed.”
The lawsuit claims Watters falsely reported that Newsom had lied about receiving a call from Trump, even after Newsom publicly denied any contact occurred.
The governor posted on X, formerly Twitter: “There was no call. Not even a voicemail.”
Citing the $787 million Dominion Voting Systems settlement from 2023, the suit alleges Fox “continues to function as a propaganda arm for radical political interests” and that Watters’ reporting has further “eroded public trust in democratic institutions.”
Despite the mounting legal threats, Watters appeared relaxed in his post, which some supporters interpreted as a subtle message.
“Between The Five and primetime, I’m impressed you have time for some golf Jesse. Congrats,” wrote one follower.
Others were more direct. “Jesse Watters – Fox’s next legal disaster,” a comment read.
And a third added: “Jesse Watters costing Fox News $780 million, I love this!!! Burn baby burn you PÓS.”
